Significant Courses

Light and Sound Technology - Fall 2017 - Aaron Krohn, instructor - UH School of Theatre & Dance

In the Light and Sound Technology course, we studied the basics of lighting and sound with a focus on theatrical productions.  Including safety, traditional lighting, DMX lighting, basic equipment, moving lights, hanging and focusing professional standards, reading and developing paperwork, light board operation, soundboard operation, cue programming, QLAB  (a Mac-based DMX control software), Audacity (sound software), and ETC Nomad. 

Scenic Technology- Spring 2018 - Joshua Jacobs, instructor - UH School of Theatre & Dance

In the Scenic Technolgy course, we studied the fundamentals of scenic elements and construction with a focus on safety, theatrical practices, and practicality. During the course, we study and repeatedly demonstrated the use of the table saw (a SawStop), band saw, panel saw, compound miter saw, Sawzall, router, pneumatic tools, and hand tools. During the course, we demonstrated our ability to build flats, platforms, and stairs that meet safety and cosmetic standards. We also studied the basic history of architecture and theatre, different technical styles, different types of stages, fly rails and curtains, rigging, and reading and using groundplans.

Intro to Stage Management- Spring 2018 - Rachel R. Bush, Associate Professor - UH School of Theatre & Dance

In Intro to Stage Management we explored the role of the stage manager in all parts of the theatrical process and the role they play as a 'living conduit' in the collaborative process. During the course we focused on effective communication, developing personal processes, sharing information, creating a positive environment, working in multiple spaces, and the running processes of shows.

Costume Technology- Fall 2018 - Barbara Nieander, Associate Professor - UH School of Theatre & Dance

In Costume Technology we explored the equipment and techniques needed for costuming. Throughout the course, I created sewing samples (handstitches and domestic machine), pajama pants, and an oxford shirt.
